A few of my special items secured on the backpack shortlist...

This weekend was spent packing, storing, giving away and throwing out STUFF!!! It’s unbelievable.. There’s so much of it. Once over the initial resistance to let go, comes the liberating feeling to shed, to realise it’s really not THAT important.

We are each taking 40L backpacks for our year trip. Not much space for anything but absolute essentials. Which currently includes, simple, breathable, durable clothes, trainers, flip flops, travel towel, sarong, swimwear, laptop, phone, headphones, Kindle, books for writing and sketching, pencils, pens and watercolours. Pack of cards, passport, toothbrush, credit and debit cards, international driving license, a medical kit including arnica and therapeutic grade essential oils. This process will continue to be an education for the whole family as we move from place to place. A continual assessment of what we REALLY need. Stuff will come and go, but essentially our stuff HAS to fit in the bags on our backs.

I don’t know how I will get by without MY kitchen knife and hand blender for a year though??? Still working on letting these essentials go.. What would be on your shortlist? What could you not do without, or what gives you strength?
